My Primal Journey: From Obstacles to Spartan Races
I've always been into fitness, but before the pandemic, I'd been doing martial arts and had gotten less interested. I was looking for something that would give me similar benefits in terms of functional fitness, and I ended up really loving the first obstacle session. That's what brought me to Primal Gym in the first place.
What stood out to me was how easy it was to get into! That was my first impression, and it's something that's stuck with me. But since changing my focus to Deka, my measure for progress has changed: from my ability to traverse obstacles more towards my overall strength and endurance.
I've had some great "Primal Progress" moments here. While I don’t think we had the whiteboard at the time, I think it was either making it back and forth across the monkey bars or making it from ring to ring - both of these really made me reconsider what I’d thought my limits were!
Right now, I’m in the final stretch of preparing for my second ever set of Spartan races in June. The bar is a bit higher since I’m doing more in a single day than before, so I’m really training my resilience in preparation. Also trying to better understand the effects of tweaking my nutrition for muscle growth. It's a whole process, but I'm loving the challenge.
It’s a close call, but it’s got to be when I earned my first official Deka mark, and seeing how much I’d improved from our simulation. That’s my favourite Primal memory. Nothing beats seeing your hard work pay off!
Primal Gym has become a huge part of my fitness journey, and I'm excited to see what comes next.
