At Primal Gym, we put the FUN back in functional fitness! Our mission is to get everyone moving and take exercise back to its natural roots. Why? Because we believe in fitness that you can use in your everyday life. All new members go through our Primal Foundations programme - a gateway to our unique approach. Once you're in, the fun begins! Sign up for a class, take advantage of open access gym and get moving! Work on your fitness or some unique skills with our personal trainers, alone or with some pals. Whatever it is that gets you moving, we've got you covered.

Here at Primal, a unique gym in Edinburgh, we believe in offering a diverse range of movement options with one goal in mind: taking exercise back to its natural roots. Our classes and training methods are all about unlocking the potential of your body to move, the way it was designed to move. Climb, swing, crawl, roll, balance, dive, pull, push, squat, hinge, throw, sprint, dodge, hang, spin, breathe and stretch - all within one very special place! Primal was founded by Dougie Graham, an athletic all-rounder and ex-stuntman, looking for a facility where he could train gymnastics, build strength through bodyweight movement and experiment with other movement practises without the confines of weight machines and treadmills. Since opening our doors in 2017, we've provided a home to all kinds of movement classes, but the core of our offering has always revolved around: gymnastics, obstacle course training and conditioning.

At Primal, our mission statement and values are described in three words:

Fun never forced.

We want to help you achieve your goals in a safe environment that welcomes play and exploration, allows you to just be yourself and make mistakes. It’s all part of the process! To help you find joy in movement and training and be ready for anything that comes your way. Be that chasing after your kids in the playground, winning your next obstacle race or escaping the zombie apocalypse!

As a father of three, Dougie introduced kids’ classes to our schedule because he knew the importance of establishing good habits young. Our family class encourages parents to train with their children, instead of dropping them off or watching on the sidelines. This attitude towards family extends to our community of amazing members of all ages, abilities, and demographics with one thing in common: a passion for movement and a desire to improve together.
